New Jersey's new Lieutenant Governor, Sheila Oliver: Recognized as "making strides" in Essence Magazine (pg 66).
Ms Oliver has held six terms since 2003 in the State Assembly. On November 23, 2009, she was elected unanimously by Assembly Democrats to become the 169th Speaker of the Assembly. Her election made her the second woman to serve as Speaker in New Jersey history and the second African American to hold this post. Nationwide, she became the second African American woman to lead a state legislature after Karen Bass of California.
2018 Fundraiser Events
NJFDW fundraiser events for 2018 include our annual Peg Roberts Award luncheon, a possible book-signing event highlighting Women Business Owners, and our annual Holiday Party in December.
NJFDW had personal losses this year:
Sarah Dowling, one of the Founders of NJFDW, passed in 2017. Sarah was a Peg Roberts Service Awards recipient, handled all the convention communications and program books, and was an active member of Burlington County.
Anne Zamonski, a Peg Roberts Service Award recipient and member of Mercer County was also lost to us in 2017.
And Almeta Honis, also a Peg Roberts Service Award recipient and member of Bergen County, passed in late 2017.
We profoundly miss all our sisters in this great and purposeful endeavor. We stand on their shoulders.
